Features Of 2012 Hyundai i40 Tourer

Exterior

The design concept of Hyundai i40 Tourer is an evolved version of ‘fluidic sculpture’ that accounts for sleek body and flowing lines. This design was debuted by ix-ionic concept and has inspired the Veloster, ix20 and 35 by Hyundai.

Interior

The cabin style of the i40 Tourer is characteristic to Hyundai. Hyundai i40 Tourer sports the familiar button-heavy steering wheel, backlit LCD panel and center-stack design. It also accommodates a fair amount of soft-touch plastic that renders a refined touch to the interior. Hyundai i40 Tourer is available in Active, Premium and Elite trim levels.

While the cloth upholstery in the Active model looks hard wearing, the same in the Premium model features well trimmed leather seats augmented by high-end equipments. The Premium model of i40 Tourer offers ventilated and heated front seats. Hyundai i40 Tourer is the first-ever car in this segment to sport heated rear seats. However, tall passengers are likely to complain about the not-so-enough headroom in the Premium model.

The headroom is eaten up by panoramic sunroof. Rear passengers get the advantage of air outlets. Hyundai i40 Tourer sports luggage rail system in both the Elite and Premium models. As it offers 553 liters boot space (1719 liters with rear seats folded), the Hyundai i40 Tourer is definitely the new-age family Tourer.

Some of the high-end equipments packed in Hyundai i40 Tourer are Bluetooth, fog lights, driver’s knee airbag, Hill Assist Control (HAC), Smart Parking Assist, Xenon headlamps, Lane Departure Warning system, etc.

Engine

The Hyundai i40 Tourer Active model is powered by 1.7L diesel engine while the Premium model is powered by 2L GDI petrol engine. This direct-injected engine renders 130kW power output and 213Nm of torque but strains out while pulling the Premium model weighing 1600kg. Also, peak torque is released at 4700rpm.

So, if you are driving up hills, getting the adequate speed would take longer. Six-speed automatic transmission adds to the woes of the driver. On the other hand, the diesel engine renders 100kW power output and 320Nm torque. Peak torque is reached at just 2000rpm and hence accounts for relaxed driving. The diesel engine is quieter than most diesel engines.

Performance

Hyundai i40 Tourer features damper settings, electric-power steering, swaybar stiffness, etc. to meet the needs of individual driver and roads. Also, the car is smooth over bumps – thanks to the large 18-inch alloy wheels.

Fuel Consumption

The diesel variant scores higher than its petrol counterpart in terms of fuel consumption as well. Hyundai i40 Tourer petrol manual consumes 6.8 liter fuel per 100km while the automatic consumes 7.5 liters. On the other hand, Hyundai i40 Tourer diesel manual consumes 4.7 liter fuel per 100km against 5.6 liter that of diesel automatic.

Price

The Hyundai i40 Tourer is priced in the range of $32,490 to $46,490.

Conclusion

Undoubtedly, the Hyundai i40 Tourer is a great advancement over the Hyundai i45 but tends to be tad costly for mid-size wagon segment. This very fact makes the competition for the i40 Tourer even tougher.
