Eating a healthy and a balanced diet is of utmost importance for a long lasting healthy lifestyle, free of ailments, disorders and diseases of any kind. A so called perfect balanced diet would essentially include all those nutrients deemed important for the body in the right quantities.
Eating foods that contain these nutrients would ensure that we receive the required amount of energy we need to function on a daily basis. While some foods can be considered appropriate for both men and women, some foods tend to cater more to a particular gender, including its health conditions and dietary specifications.
And so, the perfect balanced diet would in most cases, be different for men and women as they would need different foods to satisfy their individual requirements and concerns.
Balanced Diet Benefits for Men
Here are some of the more common foods required by men as part of their balanced diet.
Broccoli is a cruciferous vegetable and contains a chemical called sulphoraphane which helps combat various forms of cancer. In the case of men, the chemical when added to their diet on a regular basis would potentially reduce the risks associated with colorectal, bladder and prostate cancer. In addition to broccoli, men can also opt to include sprouts and cabbages to their diet in order to get their daily dose of sulphoraphane.
In contrast to the popular notion that tomatoes may cause kidney and gall bladder stones, it has been noted that this particular superfood contains high amounts of lycopene which is directly linked to the reduced risk of colorectal and prostate cancer in men.
The high lycopene content in tomatoes also helps to regulate blood cholesterol levels and treat/control heart diseases, conditions that affect more men than women.
Deemed to be the food that contains the highest levels of the mineral zinc, oysters are considered absolutely essential for men and help to maintain the sexual health of the latter with age. In addition to boosting sexual health, fertility, sperm production and the levels of testosterone in the body, oysters also help to combat hair fall and premature baldness in men.
Balanced Diet for Women
Here are some of the more common foods required by women as part of their balanced diet.
Flax Seeds are known anti inflammatory and diuretic agents that help to treat/prevent conditions like arthritis and irritable bowel syndrome; conditions which affect more women than men. These seeds also contain Omega 3 fatty acids which help to protect the body from cardiovascular disorders, heart related ailments and most important of all, breast cancer.
A necessary addition to the ‘perfect balanced diet for women’, butternut squash is loaded with plenty of alpha and beta carotenes; carotenoids which are known to protect women from breast and ovarian cancer. A diet that is high in carotenoids would ensure long term and permanent safety from these stressful issues. Carotenoids can also be found in high quantities in other orange/yellow vegetables and fruits.
Salmon is known to contain many essential nutrients for the body and is a ‘must add food’ to every woman’s daily diet. In addition to containing high levels of iron (responsible to maintain health in women who are in the premenopausal stage), salmon is also rich in Omega 3 fatty acids and so helps to treat/control mood swings and depression.
