There are vintage wines that include three-year old reserves, five-year old reserves and twenty-year old reserves. The three-year old reserves are old blends and are normally extracted from Tinta variety. The five-year old reserves are made from 15% tinta and the rest from the blend of another grape variety.

The youngest wine should be at least five years old. The twenty-year old reserve is watered down to some degrees and this makes it become a blend, with the youngest wine. Normally it is not allowed when the original regulations are followed.

It is a wine extracted from a single grape variety and stored in a cask, for a minimum of twenty years and in a bottle for two years. This type of vintage wine is very costly. This is the type of Maderia wine.

Effects of Vintage wine

Wines produced during colder climates are of vintage wines. The reason behind is the climatic change, which brings summer with a much warmer climate. So, riper grapes and better wines have to be produced before the effects of those climates, to make it delicious to taste.

Poor growing seasons may also reduce the sugar level in the grapes, making the quality of wine average. The vintage wine will be of high cost, as it is aged and stored for a longer period of time. They are used during special occasions like friendly parties, marriages etc.

This makes the good times memorable with its true taste and flavor. Port wines can also be called vintage, when it is from a single harvest, bottled for one year between July and June. A Vintage wine possesses certain characteristics that differ from that of the other wines and they are:
