How To Get Rid Of Beard Dandruff
Men are intensely prone to developing dandruff. Dandruff is the itchy, flaky skin that is shed from the top layer of the scalp. Even though it is harmless, it can be quite unappealing especially when you find flakes of dandruff on your clothes. Beard dandruff is unusual and common in men who sport thick beards.
It can also become extremely troublesome especially if it spreads to the facial skin. The condition can exacerbate leading to a skin problem called as sebhorreic dermatitis in which the skin becomes itchy and red. Here are some of the ways to get rid of beard dandruff.
How To Get Rid Of Beard Dandruff
Prevent it from spreading
The foremost thing to do in the treatment of beard dandruff is to prevent it from spreading to the face. Make sure you wash all pillows and bed linen, which may have accumulated dandruff.
This will help to prevent the spread of dandruff to the remaining parts of the face.
Neem Oil
Neem oil is said to be an excellent home remedy for eliminating dandruff. The potency of neem oil kills the dandruff thereby reducing it. Apply a generous dollop of neem oil on your beard, moustache and other affected areas. It will also kill the yeast that may be present in your beard causing the dandruff.
Lemon Juice
Lemon juice is an effective remedy for beard dandruff. It helps by reducing itchiness. Gently dab some lemon juice to your beard. It may hurt initially but the irritation will reduce subsequently.
Homemade Shampoo
Make your own personalized anti-dandruff shampoo. Mix together amla, shikakai, lemon juice, yoghurt into a bowl of henna, apply this to your beard, and scalp region.
Wash off after an hour. Not only will it give your hair a rich colour and hue, but will also condition it and reduce the dandruff.
Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe Vera gel applied regularly on the skin keeps the skin moist, supple and soft thus preventing dryness, itchiness and flakiness. It also has a cooling effect.
Anti-dandruff Shampoos
Though the use of anti-dandruff shampoos on the face is controversial, you can consult a dermatologist and ask him/her for his/her opinion on the use of anti-dandruff shampoos. Use one, which is very mild and will not hurt the sensitive skin of your face.
Check your lifestyle
Dandruff may sometimes be the direct precursor to stress, illness and a faulty diet. If you are not sleeping or eating right, make sure, you rectify this mistake. Start having foods that are rich in vitamins, minerals and proteins all of which are essential for healthy hair and skin. Increase your water intake as it will keep your skin moisturized and prevent it from drying out and causing dandruff.
Shaving
If you are not sporting the beard for religious reasons, it may be a good idea to get rid of the beard by shaving. This will halt the problem of dandruff. You exposed skin can be moisturized and kept soft and smooth by regular skin care that involves scrubbing, cleaning and exfoliation.
