Skin tags are very small and minute growths that appear anywhere in the body on the surface of the skin. They are less than 1.3 cm long and are small mass like structures. These are relatively harmless and have no symptoms. However, they can be annoying, embarrassing and can rub and irritate against clothing, thus causing bleeding.
Skin tags can be easily removed through cyrocautery in which these tags are frozen off or even through other surgical methods. Most people, however, do not consider such alternatives, as they are very expensive. Here are some natural and effective remedies to remove skin tags without having to resort to expensive treatments. Before you begin to self-treat, be doubly sure that these skin tags are not malignant tumours, big in size or growing rapidly. This could be melanoma which is a dangerous form of skin cancer.
Ways To Get Rid Of Skin Tags
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is an effective and simple home remedy for skin tag removal. Wash the skin tag area with warm water and soap and let it air dry. Now dip some cotton into a bottle of tea tree oil and gently dab this on the skin tag. Repeat the procedure twice everyday for 4-5 days. After 4 days, the skin tag will fall off on its own.
Baking Soda with Castor Oil
Castor oil and baking soda are effective in removing skin tags. Make a paste of baking soda and castor oil and apply this directly on the skin tag. This should help to dissolve and reduce the skin tag.
String tying is not a very common method of removing skin tags but it can be useful. Just tie the string of dental floss around the base of the skin tag and leave it there until it falls off on its own.

Vitamin E is said to work well in removing skin tags. Apply some vitamin E powder or oil on a band-aid and cover the skin tag. The skin tag should fall of on its own within a couple of days.
Applying nail varnish 2-3 times a day on the skin tag helps to remove it. The tag usually falls off with repeat treatments
If you know a good dermatologist, it makes sense to get it removed surgically. The doctor will apply a local anaesthetic and simply remove the skin tag with the help of a scalpel or a surgical scissor. You will be asked to take some self-care measures at home to prevent infection on the affected area.
Apple Cider Vinegar
The corrosive effects of apple cider vinegar are considered beneficial for the removal of skin tags. Rub some apple cider vinegar on the skin tags 3-4 times a day. You will have to continue this treatment for 10-15 days in order to see visible results.
Whatever technique you use, make sure you do not put yourself at risk for infection. It is always prudent to first consult a doctor before you go in for any of the methods of skin tag removal.
