HP has added another gem to its Elitebook lineup – the HP Elitebook 8470W. Targeted at professionals seeking a powerful system capable of handling intensive tasks, HP Elitebook 8470W is backed by a powerful Core i7-3720QM vPro Ivy Bridge processor.

HP Elitebook 8470W dons the look of a professional mobile workstation chiefly because of its target market. Nevertheless, the overall design looks similar to that of its predecessor.

HP Elitebook 8470W is offered with 3 different sizes of display i.e. 14 inches, 15 inches and 17 inches. Users can choose any of these depending on their business needs. HP Elitebook 8470W sports LED-backlit widescreen display. The screen renders output in 1600×900 pixels resolution. Also, the 15-inch model and 17-inch model sport 50% brighter LED backlit display.


HP Elitebook 8470W runs on third-generation Intel Core i7-3720QM vPro processor and is based on QM77 Express Chipset from Intel. The Ivy Bridge processor is placed at 13th rank in major benchmark tests.

Users will be able to choose from four variants of the processor with clock speeds varying in the range of 2.6GHz to 3.6GHz. Other internal highlights in HP Elitebook 8470W include 45W max TDP and 6MB cache.


The processor is backed by equally powerful AMD FirePro M2000 GPU with 1GB GDDR5 VRAM. The GPU varies across models. While the 14-inch Elitebook 8470W sports AMD graphics, the 15-and 17-inch laptops sport nVIDIA GPU. VRAM in the 15-and 17-inchers also has been upgraded from 2GB to 4GB.

The best part, however, is the 16GB DDR3 RAM. This combination of GPU and RAM has been included to support mobile workstations. HP Elitebook 8470W offers the power and functionality of 64-bit Windows Professional OS. It has an integrated DVD burner.


The laptop sports 500GB HDD that is compatible with S.M.A.R.T.


 HP Elitebook 8470W hosts a bunch of standard connectivity features such as Bluetooth 4.0 with EDR adapters, eSATA/USB combo port, 2xUSB 3.0 ports, 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi, ExpressCard slot and multi-in-one memory card reader. It also sports RGB and FireWire.

However, the most prominent connectivity feature in HP Elitebook 8470W is Intel Centrino Ultimate N-6300 that combines the power of 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi and WiFi Direct to render up to 450Mbps speed and extensive range.

This amazing Intel product is based on high-end technologies such as Smart Connect technology and vPro technology and offers features such as My WiFi Dashboard and Wireless Display. Besides, the inclusion of LTE connectivity is a revolutionary change.
