There are a few hundred Swiss watch brands and for most of the people remembering or even knowing all of them is not that easy. So they end up with remembering a few big names like Rolex, TAG Heuer, Longines, Omega, Tissot, etc.
However, most of these brands have watches that sell for a high price and at the most a person can end up buying just one Swiss watch in his lifetime (except the billionaires, of course). But what about making a collection? Then go for the lesser known brands that are also carriers of the fine tradition of Swiss watch making.
Go for a Marvin, the company that has been making fine watches since 1850. And if you want something special then have the Marvin LOEB Special Edition. Marvin has developed this line in collaboration with the seven times world rally champion Sebastian Loeb.
Loeb was involved in each step of design and his immense experience in the rally circuit has gone into the watch crafted by the masters, Jean-Francois Rucchonet and S.Perret. As Loeb wanted, the watch reflects his personality. While incorporating the masculine and sporty look, Marvin retains the proof of creativity for which it is known.
The case of this mechanical, automatic rewinding chronograph is made of steel in reserved matt gray and the 44mm diameter holds a lot of details. It has a black PVD bezel and the watch has red suspension springs (just like a rally car) attached to the flexible horns which help the wearer to adjust the watch to fit snugly on the wrist.
This is a unique feature that Marvin has brought into this watch. There are seven stars to signify the seven wins of Loeb in the World Rally Championships. The dial includes sub-dials shaped like the dashboard instruments to show the critical information. Each of these dials is made up of riveted plates set at different levels and the hands resemble stabilizing bars used in rally cars. The dial uses the superluminova C1 indexes. The controls for the chronograph dial are coated in black PVD to give the look of the gear change paddles.
The movement is automatic ETA Valjoux 7750 and it can be seen through the transparent sapphire glass back which also has the signature of the champion engraved on it. There are 25 jewels and the winding mechanism gives a 46 hours of power reserve. The sapphire glass, scratch proof cover and the water resistance up to 100 meters together with the black rubber bracelet and Marvin tang clasp completes the sporty nature of the watch.
Though this is a signature, limited edition watch and only 777 pieces have been made, the Marvin LOEB does not blare out the presence of Sebastian Loeb. It is the making of the watch that will tell any rally enthusiasts that only an expert can include these features and that expert is present only by his signature and the seven stars. It is a perfect gift piece for any rally or sports enthusiasts and a great piece to add to one’s collection of sports watches.
