Nokia N9 Review

In the 3rd week of June Nokia announced its new smartphone – N9. The phone looks stunning in the new design where the ‘home’ key has been replaced by ‘swipe’.

This means that you just need to swipe from the display edge to transfer back to home from any application. The User Interface (UI) has three different types of home views.

Nokia N9 Features

The design team of Nokia has brought in innovations both in hardware and software. The home key has been redesigned as discussed above and many other new features like all screen user experience, have been introduced.

The Nokia N9 has incorporated the latest technologies in camera, navigation and audio. The body is made of polycarbonate and the black display is fully laminated which increases the visual appeal of the product. The phone boasts of a 1GHz Arm Cortex processor and a MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan OS.

The 3.9 inch AMOLED screen is totally scratch resistant. Since there is no home key, there is more space for applications. The antenna performance of the phone is enhanced because it has got a polycarbonate body.

The user will definitely note the difference as he/ she will experience better voice clarity and better reception.

Nokia N9 Camera & Multimedia

The new Nokia N9 has an 8MP camera that also features a Carl Zeiss wide-angle lens that is capable of capturing videos of HD quality. The performance of the camera is exemplary even in lowlight conditions. The camera is front facing which makes it ideal for video calls.  No wonder, Nokia N9 is already been touted as one of the best camera phones in the world today.

The phone also has the dedicated Drive app which helps in navigating you to the destination  the moment you enter your car. The phone is capable of voice guidance too which is a very good feature, indeed.

Nokia N9 review

Nokia N9 has been certified as the first phone in the world with Dolby Digital Plus decoding which gives a surround sound effect. The 16:9 widescreen format of the phone is highly suitable for video watching. The new Penta-Band 3G radio is a welcome addition and Nokia is the first to introduce this feature in phones.

Nokia N9 Memory & Colors

The Nokia N9 comes in three color options namely black, cyan and magenta. There are two storage options too – 16GB and 64GB. The Nokia N9 is expected to hit the markets in the last quarter of 2011. As of now, there is no concrete information regarding the likely price of the cell. However, reports suggest that in India the price of Nokia N9 would be Rs 32,368.

The phone, on paper, looks good but I doubt whether it can withstand the stiff competition in the market. There are simply no buttons on the phone as the touch screen interface controls everything on the device.

The Nokia N9 comes in three colors but the magenta looks good. The curved Gorilla glass gives an elegant look to the phone. The device has the standard battery Li-Ion 1320 MAH and is a bit bulky at 160g.
