The all new Samsung Galaxy Beam is just like any other Galaxy smartphones embedded with an inbuilt projector for a change, located at the top of the device. For years the smartphone manufacturers are trying to incorporate pico projectors in their products and now we have the Galaxy Beam bragging about this unique feature.

It was one fine morning that Samsung uploaded Beam’s photos on Google+ and by the end of the day the devotees gathered at Mobile World Congress to lay their hands upon the first demo version. For high quality projection you need a dark room and with a brightness of 15 lumens there is no doubt regarding a decent output.

The Samsung Galaxy Beam has dimensions of 123 x 59.7 x 15 mm and weighs around 156 grams.

Display

The Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen of the Samsung Galaxy Beam measures 3.7 inches diagonally and has a maximum resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. The display also boasts of multi-touch function, 252 pixels per inch pixel density and 16M colours. Protected by a scratch resistant glass, it also features handwritten recognition capability and projector user interface.

Sound

As far as the sound is concerned, the Samsung Galaxy Beam supports both vibration and MP3 ringtones as call alert types and is implanted with stereo speakers. The audio experience through the 3.5 mm audio jack is also enhanced employing the Digital Natural Sound Engine.

The Samsung Galaxy Beam has an internal storage capacity of 16 GB escorted by 512 MB of ROM and 384 MB of RAM. The device also boasts of a micro SD card slot supporting memory expansion of up to 32 GB.

The Samsung Galaxy Beam is engrafted with single core 720 MHz processing unit, accelerometer and proximity sensors and Android 2.1 Eclair operating system. The messaging options include SMS, MMS, IM, Email, RSS and Push Email. The device is capable of supporting Adobe Flash Lite, WAP 2.0/xHTML and HTML browsers.

The additional features include stereo FM with RDS, Java MIDP emulator, A-GPS support, SNS integration along with live updates, inbuilt WVGA projector, Google Talk and YouTube integration, image editor, voice memo/dial, Swype for predictive text input, Organizer and ThinkFree Office Mobile for editing documents. The smartphone supports audio files like MP3, WAV, WMA and eAAC+ and video files like MP4, Xvid, H.263, H.264 and DivX.

Camera

The 8 MP camera lens located at the rear end of the Samsung Galaxy Beam has a maximum resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels with autofocus option and LED flash. The shooter features impressive image capturing options like geo-tagging and smile, face and blink detection. It is also capable of shooting 720p videos at 30 fps while the front facing camera shoots only VGA videos.
