Samsung has launched its pocket friendly entry level Android phone targeting mainly the students or consumers in the developing countries. Even though it is available just under Rs.7000/-here in India, this device has just the right kind of mixture of technology and economy.

The Design

The Samsung Galaxy Y is a neat and stylish looking phone which has chrome finished rim surrounding the phone and a patterned sliver colour back cover which gives the phone a superior grip. The front panel of the phone has black mirror finished design. The power and lock button of the phone is situated in the upper right hand portion of the phone.

The volume control button is placed on the top left corner of the device. On the back of the Galaxy Y you will find the 2 megapixel camera and the loud speaker. The Micro SD slot and the audio jack are situated on the top portion of the device.

Display

The Samsung Galaxy Y has a captive LCD touch screen, with a very basic screen size of just 3 inches. It supports a screen resolution of 240X320 pixels. But even at this resolution the phone’s displays looks above average.

Due to the phones small screen size sometimes the user interface might look a bit shabby and grainy. The Galaxy Y has an in built Accelerometer sensor, which helps the user to view the contents of the phone either in vertical or horizontal mode.

The User Interface and Processor

The Samsung Galaxy Y is running on the latest Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread operating system. This device is powered with an internal 832 MHz processor, which helps the device’s user interface to run very smoothly. The phone supports animations and videos very well and has no issues at all with it.

The user navigation of the phone is also very good. The phone has an internal task manager which helps the user to organize and manage the phone’s RAM and the memory. The user can even close the unnecessary applications that are running on the background and slowing down the device’s performance through the task manager. The Galaxy Y has an inbuilt Ram of 290 MB and an on board ROM of 190 MB.

The user can add or remove many widgets like active weather on the home screen. Even at this screen resolution the phones dialer and the messaging application has real good touch key board. The phone also supports voice dictation technique through which the user can just speak the message and the message will get typed on the phone effortlessly.

With the help of pre-installed YouTube application the user can watch videos and movies in high quality. The phone’s inbuilt speaker has good sound clarity. The phone’s inbuilt browser is capable enough to load websites pretty fast.

Camera

The Galaxy Y come with an inbuilt 2 Megapixels camera with features like smile detection etc. The picture quality is not impressive at all. The video capability of the camera is not up to the mark with QVGA quality and just 15fps.
