It’s relatively bulky camera that will not fit into your pant or shirt pockets but can be accommodated in a small size camera bag. The camera is powered by 2x Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery Pack, which provides ample amount of backup time.
The camera is powered by APS-C (23.5 x 15.7 mm) CMOS type image sensor, which carries 48 Mega Pixel resolution. Other resolutions that are available are 44.4 MP, 21.3 MP and 11.1 MP. Please note that the chosen resolution size actually determines the size of image file that will be saved in the camera or memory card.
The aspect ratio supported it 3:2 and there is no image stabilization available as such. As far as the camera optics is concerned, it has 8 elements lens while the auto focus range is from 28 cm (11.02 inches) to infinity. The LCD monitor present in the camera is quite good in the sense that it carries a screen resolution of 920,000 dots and has a size measuring 3 inches. The LCD monitor is not touch sensitive, which may not be a big issue anyways!

When it comes to speed, this camera is quite fast and can give tough competition to other cameras. The shortest shutter speed is merely 1/2000 sec, while the exposure modes supported are Aperture-Priority, Shutter-Priority, Program and Manual.
In continuous shooting mode also, this camera stands good supporting this option at 4 frames per second (fps). As far as movie mode is concerned, Sigma DP2 Merrill can take movies in standard VGA mode carrying a resolution of 640×480. This camera does not support stereo sound and user has to be satisfied with mono mode only.
